JOEL LIVE @ THE BROAD 7.23.21

Thank you for visiting my Broad performance information page. Tonight I will be performing a 45-minute improvisation score, three times over the course of the evening at 5:00 PM, 6:00 PM and at 7:00 PM. 

While there is only one score, my approach to it will be different for each timed interval, signified by what I am wearing and the nostalgia each collection of garments carries for me. In the images below you'll notice I’m wearing something different. Please click Info for more on each approach. The movement aesthetic, pacing, and structure of the score are largely an investigation of my queerness, ways of keeping tender during isolation, for expanding possibilities while aging, and a space for me to remain patient in the unknown. Performing this practice at the Broad is an experiment. My goal is to resist (as much as possible) codifiable gender expectations and legibility, while also seeking self-pleasure and joy in being together, alone.
